Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB set of WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Type 5 Dust-Proof Goggles! These were used by land transport troops, dispatch riders, ground troops, and others!
The most common type of Japanese goggle was termed, “general purpose dust goggles for ground troops.” They were officially designated, “Dust Proof Glasses” (防塵眼鏡 ‘Bōjin Megane’) Type 5 (1930 = fifth year of Hirohito’s reign = Showa year 5). These later types were wartime production being produced in a high quality lightweight pale khaki canvas. There are numerous pictures of these being used by troops in the dusty environments of central Asia during the 1930’s and elsewhere in WWII. Japanese tank crews had their own special laminated ‘Armored’ goggles based on the British Triplex ‘Featherweights’ of WWI, non-armored land transport troops, dispatch riders and ground troops used these lightweight folding lens Type 5 dust goggles from 1930, until the end of the war.
Made of lightweight canvas, steel, and glass, this set of Imperial Japanese Army Type 5 Dust Proof Goggles are in AMAZING unissued condition! Still contained in their original leather storage case, they feature NO damage, corrosion, marks, or wear! Also included is the original packing paper! Elastic has stiffened somewhat over time, but that is expected, given the age. One small hole in the elastic as you can see in the photos. A VERY RARE addition to any collection or display!
