Description
The M31 canteen was based on the M1893 and M1907 canteen which were used throughout WW1. These were originally manufactured in aluminum, but as aluminum was required for use in other equipment (aircraft, for example), they were then re-designed to be manufactured in steel. For tropical climates, the canteen was made of pressed wood with canvas straps.
Made of pig skin leather and steel, this canteen strap set is in EXCELLENT condition for it’s age. Some marks and wear throughout, due to the age, as well as some slight corrosion to the steel fittings, but nothing that detracts. No markings that I can see. This style was made for LATE-WAR canteen strap set-up that was simplified in 1944 to save on materials. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
