Description
In 1935, the Third Reich developed the smaller, lighter M35 style helmet, and then in an effort to reduce construction time and labor costs, minor modifications were introduced in March 1940 resulting in the M40 helmet. Further construction modifications were undertaken in August 1942 resulting in the M42 helmet.
After WWII Norway reused a large number of German helmets. These helmets were left behind after the surrender of German Forces in Norway. These helmets remained in use with the Norwegian army until the introduction of the M58 helmet (US M1 style helmet) in the late 50’s early 60’s.Made of stamped steel, this M40 Combat Helmet is in EXCELLENT used condition! It retains 85% of it’s original paint and finish, but there is some obvious patina, corrosion, marks, and wear due to the age. It is marked with the serial number, “959”, and ET64 (ET = Eisenhuttenwerke, Thale; 64 = Size). The RARE feature is that is still retains the original Norwegian Decals on the side! Sadly, the liner is misisng. A VERY NICE item, PERFECT item for any collection or display!
