Description
The Gas Cape was designed as a quick means of protection during gas attacks. The user was to remove from the cape from the carrying pouch, and then simply crouch down on the ground, throw the sheet over himself, and wait until the danger had passed.
The cape was contained in the field in the gas cape pouch. During the war there were 2 models in service, firstly one made out of a rubberized cotton and later in the war one made from a cheaper cloth. Both styles of pouch measured in their un-packed state 17cm x 22cm. As a means of closure, both were fitted with 2 press-studs to which were affixed 2 fabric tabs to help with easy access.
Made of green rubberized cotton and wax, this Gas Cape and Bag are in EXCELLENT condition! The cape measures approx. 100cm x 200cm, and is made of a wax impregnated paper. There is some slight staining and wear, due to the age, but it still retains most of it’s original green color. It is quite stiff from age, so I would not recommend unfolding or using. Part of the original label also remains. The bag is made of a rubberized cotton/canvas material, and is the later style. It features a manufacture code, and measures approx. 17cm x 22cm. Features two snap closures. A SUPERB addition to any collection or display
