Description
Development of flight uniforms began during WW1, and continued into WW2. What developed were a 1-piece flight suit (2 for winter 1 for summer), which in 1936 developed into an electrically heated flight suit. The heavyweight winter flight suits were made large enough to fit over the standard uniform. In 1940, a 2-piece suit (Channel Jacket & Pants) was made for fighter pilots, increasing the user mobility. Orignally manufactured in Bulgaria, the white version of the 1-piece suit was only produced until 1942, when the common darker blue suit was standardized.
Manufactured in white sheepskin, with a fur/fleece lining, this RARE pair of pants is in AMAZING condition for it’s age! Being a combat worn jacket, is does show some wear, marks, and field repairs…but it is SUPERB otherwise! Originally made in Bulgaria for the German Luftwaffe, it matches the original German pattern almost identically! Very soft and supple! The snaps are of PRYM manufacture, and the zippers are made by Zipp, Elite, and Rapid. A bit of surface corrosion and staining on the metal fittings, but all function 100% smoothly and correctly. A couple of the leather pull tabs are missing. The interior lining is made of fur/fleece and is 100% intact with no tears or damage. The interior lining also features a Bulgarian manufacture stamp,. I have shown Adolf Galland wearing the cooresponding jacket (same manufacture) in the last photo. EASILY the nicest I have owned of this type, it is overall an EXCELLENT example…would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
