Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of a WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Type 92 Model 2 Magnetic Compass, as used in various fighter aircraft such as the Mitsubishi A6M “Zero”, J1N “Irving”, B5N “Kate”, B7A “Grace”, Kikka (Japanese version of Germany’s Me262 Jet), Ohka Kamikaze Rocket, and others!
This instrument indicated the current direction of the aircraft and pointed to magnetic north. It was located on the main instrument panel, and was used in most early to mid-war fighters.
Made of brass and aluminum by Yokogawa Electric, this instrument is in EXCELLENT used condition! It was removed from a downed Japanese aircraft during the war, and it still retains 95% of it’s original finish! Some slight marks and wear in some areas, but nothing that takes away from the overall appearance. Most of the original fluid still remains, and it is 100% functional (still points magnetic North)! The data plate is also fully intact, and features a prominent Japanese Navy Anchor inspection stamp. Also attached to this panel is the original light bulb for illuminating the compass dial, as well as one of the original mounting screws! The rubber on the adjustment knob has deformed slightly, but that is normal for this type of compass (Japanese rubber degrades over time). I have shown its location in the last images. Like most Japanese instruments, this instrument is VERY rare and would be a FANTASTIC addition to any Japanese Instrument Collection!
