Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of a NEW OLD STOCK WW2 German Wehrmacht Vehicle Engine Oil Testing Viskosimeter! Used in most military vehicles (Panzers, Sd.Kfz. 250 / 251, Kubelwagen, Schwimmagen, etc. throughout the war.
With the Air Bubble Viscometer, you could determine how high the petrol dilution of the motor oil was. In the cold war regions, motor oil was diluted with petrol. Otherwise, the motor would freeze at -40° to -50°. The danger here was of course that too much petrol was mixed into the oil and the lubricity of the oil was impaired.
The three right-hand glass tubes were filled with various kinds of petrol-diluted oils. The left tube (#3) was filled with the oil to be tested. The tube was filled just as much as the other three. Then locked. Now you could turn it upside down and see how quickly the air bubble rose. Tube #1 had the oil mixed with 25% gasoline, #2 was diluted to 15%, and #3 was undiluted.
Made of glass and steel, this Engine Oil Viscosity Tester is in AMAZING NOS condition! Some slight marks and wear from storage as you can see in the photos, but VERY SOLID otherwise! Box is original to this set, and still retains the original contents and instruction label! Apart a small packet of wax, it is 100% COMPLETE! I have shown it in use in the last photo (from an original Winter Vehicle Handbook). Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
