Description

You are bidding on a GOOD used example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Rundfunkempfaenger (WR1) Radio Receiver, as used throughout most branches of the military throughout the war!

The WR1 is a German radio widely used by the German Army as an entertainment receiver, and nicknamed “Rudi”. It had good performance and rugged construction. It was intended for front line use, so had a “universal” power supply. It was not intended for domestic use where main power lines were available.
The radio was designed by Blaupunkt in 1940, and used Telefunken metal valves. These were civilian valves, and had to be additionally military certified. This radio had the letter “T” stenciled at the top left hand corner of the front panel, so that the appropriate spares could be kept. The nameplate only showed WR1, but the model was generally known as WR1/T. The replacement 1941 model, used new glass valves developed by Philips, using loctal bases, and made by Valvo. Internally within Philips, they were known as “Rudi tubes”. This radio had the letter “P” stenciled at the top left hand corner of the front panel, and the model was generally known as WR1/P. Blaupunkt manufactured about 21,000 WR1/T models and about 4,000 WR1/P models. Philips manufactured about 13,000 WR1/P models.
This is one of the largest, most complex and multi-featured superheterdyne troop entertainment radios and wass capable of drawing power from multiple sources based on the power grid of the occupied country. It was able out output sound to any number of external devices, and play music from gramophones or other playback machines. Different types of antenna systems could be connected to the WR1-T depending on what was available. The receiver could catch stations on both the short, medium and long wave bands. The built-in speaker was loud and powerful. Headphones could also be used. The built-in voltmeter told you if your power setting was correct for utility power in that region. The WR1-T could be powered with either battery or utility power.

Made of aluminum, bakelite, and steel, this WR1 Radio Receiver is in NICE used condition! Though there are some marks, scratches, dents and wear, it still retains 98% of its original wartime paint! Does not have the outer casing, and appears to be missing parts internally. I have not tested it for electrical functionality, so this is being sold for parts and repair. All switches and dials work as they should. A GREAT candidate for restoration, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
