Description
The M31 mess kit was originally introduced in March 1931, and was based on the earlier M1910 design of WW1. It was slightly smaller and was constructed in 2 parts, with a small removable shallow top lid. This lid served as plate or frying pan. Originally they were made in aluminum, but were changed to steel as the war progressed to save on materials. It normally came with a leather strap to secure it to the bread bag.
Made of sheet steel, this enameled mess kit is in EXCELLENT used condition! Though there are some chips, marks, scratches, and slight wear due to the age, it still retains approx. 95% of it’s original paint and finish! Features a black/green paint on the exterior, and a light grey interior. This is a VERY RARE late-war 1945 variant, featuring a simplified wire loop on each side to retain the carrying handle. No maker marks, but that is consistent with this type of mess kit. Probably made in May of 1945, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
