Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE and 100% ORIGINAL example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Russian Front Medal!
Introduced on May 26, 1942 to commemorate the first winter campaign in Russia, this medal was awarded to all Wehrmacht personnel (as well as civilians and foreign volunteers) who participated in at least fourteen days of combat on the Russian front (between November 15, 1941 and April 15th, 1942). Sometimes referred to as the “Frozen Meat Medal”, it was discontinued on September 4, 1944, with the last medal being awarded on October 15, 1944.
Made of a die struck alloy, with a silver plating on the outer rim and helmet, this medal is in VERY NICE condition! Features a National Eagle in the center with a helmet and stick grenade embossed at the top. Back side features the wording, “Winterschlacht Im Osten 1941/42” (Winter Battle in the East 1941/42), above a crossed sword and laurel leaf sprig. Some slight marks and wear due to the age, but nothing that detracts! Complete with the original ribbon, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
