Description
You are bidding on an EXCEPTIONAL and COMPLETE WW2 German Wehrmacht Dienstglas accessory set consisting of an original Bakelite Okularschutz (Rain Shield), original Leather Trageriemen (Neck Strap), and original Leather Anknöpflasche (Button Tab)! These components were used together with German military field binoculars to protect the eyepieces, carry the binoculars around the neck, and secure them to the wearer’s tunic during field use.
German Dienstglas binoculars were normally issued with a group of practical accessories intended to make them easier to carry and protect in service. The Okularschutz fitted over the ocular lenses to protect them from rain, dust, and debris, while the leather Trageriemen allowed the binoculars to be carried around the neck or across the chest. The Anknöpflasche, or button tab, incorporated an elongated button opening that attached directly to a tunic button, helping prevent the binoculars from swinging freely while the soldier was moving. These accessories were produced for use with a wide range of Wehrmacht binocular patterns and are very commonly missing from surviving examples today, particularly when found together as a complete original set..
Made of Bakelite and Leather, this original Dienstglas accessory set is in EXCELLENT used condition! Found in storage, the original Bakelite Rain Shield remains completely intact with NO cracks, chips, repairs, or serious damage, and the original Leather Neck Strap remains complete, strong, and pliable with its original fittings present. The matching Leather Button Tab is also complete and remains soft and flexible, with the elongated button opening fully intact and showing only normal age-related wear. The leather retains a faint but identifiable 1944 bmj maker/date marking, indicating manufacture for M. Hensoldt & Söhne A.G., Wetzlar. The fact that the Okularschutz, Trageriemen, and Anknöpflasche remain together strongly suggests they were removed as a set from an original Dienstglas and subsequently stored, and I actually found them together inside an empty period binocular case. There are NO major tears, cracks, missing sections, or repairs to any of the components. Everything present is 100% ORIGINAL wartime German manufacture. An EXCELLENT and increasingly difficult-to-find complete Dienstglas accessory set, ideal for restoring or completing an original Wehrmacht binocular display!
