Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Anknöpflasche, or binocular button tab! This small leather accessory was used in conjunction with German military Dienstglas field binoculars to secure them against the wearer’s uniform while being carried.
The Anknöpflasche was attached to the binocular assembly and incorporated a buttonhole allowing it to be fastened directly to a button on the soldier’s tunic. This simple arrangement prevented the binoculars from swinging freely against the chest while walking, running, or performing other field duties, while still allowing them to remain immediately accessible for observation. These leather retaining tabs were used with German Dienstglas binoculars and were commonly manufacturer marked and dated, although they are frequently missing from surviving binocular sets today.
Made of leather, this original Anknöpflasche is in EXCELLENT used condition! The leather remains soft and pliable with only normal marks and wear from age and use. The reverse retains its original manufacturer and date stamping, though both are quite faint. It appears to read “1942” as the production date; and “ddx” as the manufacture. The characteristic elongated button opening remains intact and the piece displays very nicely. Everything present is 100% ORIGINAL wartime German manufacture. A VERY NICE and increasingly difficult-to-find accessory for completing an original Wehrmacht Dienstglas binocular set!
