Description
You are bidding on an EXCELLENT used example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Luftwaffe Officer Visor Cap (Schirmmütze für Offizier)! This was brought back by a US Veteran, however I do not have any further history.
Visor caps were a standard issue for all personnel. Officers and certain senior NCO ranks were responsible for purchasing their own caps and as a result were allotted a clothing allowance. They could choose to purchase their caps from the armed forces clothing depots or privately purchase caps of higher quality. The visor caps for Company and Field grade Officer’s holding the ranks of Leutnant up to Oberst were distinguished from EM/NCO’s caps by bright silver/aluminum piping and a silver/aluminum chin cord while Officers holding Generals ranks of Generalmajor up to Reichsmarschall utilized gold colored fittings. EM/NCO ranks visor caps utilized the appropriate waffenfarbe, (Branch of Service Color), piping and blackened leather chinstraps. In April 1935 a white topped visor cap was introduced and was permitted for wear by all ranks as an optional item between April 1 and October 1. The cap was most commonly produced with a removable top although fixed top caps were also produced contrary to regulations. Originally the removable white tops were produced in a ribbed white cotton drill until regulations of June 1937 altered the top to a white cotton/synthetic material blend with a repeating waffle pattern although both styles were worn through-out the war.
Made of White Cotton/Rayon, this Luftwaffe Officer Visor Cap is in EXCELLENT condition considering it’s age! As it was combat-worn, there are some slight marks, wear, stains and holes…but nothing that detracts. It features a dark cloth center band. as well as a pattern wreath and cockade. It has the standard silver braided chin strap, which is secured by two silver-colored pebbled buttons. The interior of the cap is fully lined in a brushed off-white/tan rayon, however there are sweat marks/stains as you can see in the photos. The manufacture label is VERY prominent, clearly indicating all information. The leather sweatband is also fully intact. No size markings, but I would guess that it is a size 62, as it fits large. This cap features the REMOVABLE white top, which is secured by a cord/elastic that runs along the bottom edge. Appears to have had an Luftwaffe Eagle attached at some time, but has since been removed. One of the NICEST ones I have seen in a while, I have shown the EXACT type in use in the last photos. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display! Please email me if you need additional photos or information. |
