Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Me109 F-G Series Control Column Assembly! This is the lower control-column assembly and steel column tube onto which the KG13 Control Grip was mounted in the cockpit.
The Me109 employed a centrally mounted control column positioned between the pilot’s legs, with fore-and-aft movement controlling pitch and lateral movement controlling roll through the aircraft’s mechanical flight-control system. The upper end accepted the well-known KG 13 series control grip, which incorporated the pilot’s weapons controls directly into the handle. KG 13A and related variants were used extensively in later Me109 aircraft, including the G and K series, while the basic control-column arrangement remained one of the most recognizable features of the fighter’s compact cockpit. Original wartime documentation identifies the Steuerknüppel assembly as part of the primary flight-control system, making the lower column and bearing assembly an essential structural component rather than merely a mounting tube for the grip.
Made of steel, this control-column assembly is in EXCELLENT RESTORED condition! The lower base assembly, including is 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German manufacture…however…as the original steel column tube was heavily bent, it was replaced with a new steel tube of the correct specification. It was then welded into the original base assembly in the proper configuration. The restored assembly is now straight, structurally sound, and 100% AIRWORTHY, having been rebuilt for actual installation rather than merely cosmetic display. The original lower assembly remains intact with a modern replaced bearing (originals can be found) and associated hardware, while the replacement tube has been correctly primed and is ready for final painting and installation. An EXCELLENT opportunity to acquire an original wartime Me109 control-column base professionally restored with a correct replacement tube, suitable for an advanced restoration, cockpit build, museum display, or airworthy aircraft project!
