Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE set of WW2 German Kriegsmarine 8×60 U-Boat & Ship Commander Binoculars!
The German Army and Navy used a wide variety of optical equipment, including a 6×30 (6 power magnification with 30mm objective lens), 7×50, 8×30, 8×60, 10×50 and others, being the standard issued optics used by all branches of service. Specialized personnel (such as U-Boat Commanders) required stronger optics, and as such, were issued the 8×60 on a limited basis.
This Kriegsmarine Carl Zeiss 8×60 Doppelfernrohr Porro II Binocular was part of a batch of only 200 examples ordered in June of 1941. A favourite of U-Boat Commanders, they are considered the BEST military handheld binoculars ever made! They feature Wide Field capabilities (160 Meters @ 1000 Meters, 9.1 Degrees), and razor sharp images that are bright and stunning. Combined with a high eye relief, Porro 2 prism design, they make for a viewing experience that is second to none! Supplied to commanders of Kriegsmarine ships and submarines, the view is very wide and bright, clear and well defined even in low light.
Made by “blc” (Carl Zeiss) of a large tooled alloy and aluminum construction, these ALL ORIGINAL 8×60 Porro II Kriegsmarine Commander binoculars are in AMAZING used condition! The lens bodies retain about 95% of their original, rough textured, black finish, and both focal adjustment still function on both eye pieces! The right cover plate is marked “8×60“; “2161035“; and “blc”. The optics are AMAZINGLY clear, and in PERFECT alignment! An unmolested example, there is NO damage to the lenses or prims! The reticle is present in the right ocular, and comes complete with the VERY RARE Rubber Eyecups! I have shown this exact type in use in the last images. LARGE in size and weighing approx. 5.5lbs, they would make a PERFECT for any collection or display!
