WW1 German Fliegertruppen Taschenuhr – AIRCRAFT COCKPIT CLOCK – DORA – RARE!

You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a WW1 German / Prussian Fliegertruppen Issue Pocket Watch / Cockpit Clock! This type of clock is featured in Dr. Konrad Knirim’s book titled, “Military Timepieces”.

During the First World War, the P.u.W. (Prüfungs- und Werksflug) system formed a critical part of the German aircraft supply chain. Before any airplane reached a Flieger-Abteilung or Jagdstaffel at the front, it first passed through a P.u.W. unit, where trained technical officers and test pilots conducted flight trials, mechanical evaluations, and structural inspections. Their role was essential to the aviation war effort, ensuring that new aircraft designs, repaired planes, or modified machines were safe, combat-ready, and met the required performance standards. Watches such as this – privately purchased but unit-marked – were used for timing test flights, engine run cycles, navigation intervals, and inspection procedures.

Made of nickel-plated bras, this Swiss-made DOXA Pocket Watch / Cockpit Clock is in EXCELLENT functioning condition! Some light scraches, ,marks and wear due to the age, but nothing that detracts. It features the classic Imperial winged propeller flanked by “P.u.W.” (Prüfungs- und Werksflugabteilung) ; and “Jnst. Abtg.” (Inspektions-Abteilung), clearly stamped into the reverse. The dial is clean and original, with bold black numerals, “DORA” signature, correct sub-seconds register, and attractive period ornate hands (though they may have been re-painted at one time). Crystal shows age-consistent marks but no cracks. Movement is original and unmodified. Though it is 100% FUNCTIONAL, it has not tested for accuracy and may require cleaning or adjustment. No re-plating, polishing, or restoration of any kind has been performed.
