Description
You are bidding on an EXCELLENT and VERY RARE WW1 German Fliegertruppen Aircraft Fabric Wing Skin! Most likely removed from a captured Fokker, Rumpler, Albatros, Gotha, Halberstadt or similar, this was recovered from France. Sadly, I do not have any further history.
This type of lacquered fabric covered the entire airframe of the aircraft, and all control surfaces. This was fairly universal on most aircraft control surfaces during WW1.
Made of lightweight fabric, this section is in AMAZING condition, and retains 95% of its original paint! Though it does feature some marks and wear due to the age, all colors are VERY BRIGHT! Features a standard Black/White German Balkencross that has been painted over by a Red/White/Blue French Roundel. This signifies that it was from a captured aircraft at one time. The AMAZING feature is that it still retains the original Green/Brown/Red Lozenge Camouflage Colors on the reverse! This original camouflage remains as the colors bled through the fabric when it was originally applied. Most likely originating from the fuselage or lower wing, I have indicated similar examples in the last images. Overall size is a VERY LARGE 37″ x 40″ (3 feet x 3.5 feet in size)! Original aircraft skin (especially of this size) is EXTREMELY rare as it usually burned up or rotted away over time. A one-of-a-kind item which would make an FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
