Description
This instrument indicated the current direction of the aircraft and indicated the current direction via a radio beacon. There are two inputs on this instrument, those being the magnetic compass and the DF antenna. This allows the instrument to display the direction of the DF antenna in relation to the aircraft; the direction of the DF antenna in relation to the magnetic North and the direction of the aircraft in relation to the magnetic North. To operate this device, the Radio Operator selects a particular radio beacon. At that point, the AFN1 instrument will indicate if he needs to turn his antenna to the left or right. He turns the antenna until the AFN1 points to the center. The navigator can now read the direction of the beacon on the PFA/R instrument. Note that with the Peil G6, turning of the antenna is done automatically). Normally, It was the Radio Operator’s job to tune the receiver, while it would be the Navigator’s job to read the bearing from the PFA/R and use this to calculate the position of the aircraft. For this reason you will generally find the PFA/R in the front of the cockpit, pointing away from the Radio Operator. In the Me110, however, the unit was pointed directly to teh radio operator, as he also acted as Navigator. Made of aluminum and steel, this is an EXCELLENT compass in SUPERB used condition! Manufactured around 1942-1945, it retains 95% of it’s original paint and finish, and is 100% functional! There are a few tiny marks and scratches due to the age, but nothing that takes away from the overall appearance. Retains most of it’s original RLM66 cockpit paint, and all data plates. The rear cover is also intact (most of the time these are missing), and I have indicated it’s location in the last photos. One of the RAREST radio/direction instruments to find, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection, display or restoration project! Please email me if you need additional photos or information. ——————- PAYMENT —————– Payment should be made within 7 business days at the end of the auction unless buyer contacts me for other arrangements.
