Description
During WW1, most pilots quickly realized the need for protective headgear due to the cold weather effects while in an open cockpit. As no headgear was readily available, pilots were forced to utilize commercially produced leather motorcycle and automobile helmets. During WW2, the German military produced approx. 10 variations of flight helmets for various operational conditions, as well as with or without radio communication equipment. This specific helmet was designed with radio equipment for fighter and bomber pilots. Formed on March 15, 1937 in Mannheim-Sandhofen, JG334 was a fighter wing equipped wtih the Me109 B/D, Ar68, and He51. It was re-designated as JG133 on November 1, 1938; and then JG53 “Pik As” on May 1, 1939. 5. Jgschwader 334 Mannheim 4. Staff. Also has an LBA Depot Stamp. As it is in used condition there is a bit of wear and marks. Upper strap to help retain the oxygen mask was removed, but that was a common practice during the war. Would make a FANTASTIC and VERY RARE addition to any collection or display! ——————- PAYMENT —————– Payment should be made within 7 business days at the end of the auction unless buyer contacts me for other arrangements.
