Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of a WW2 USAAF Aircraft Sperry K-9 Upper Turret Computing Gunsight! Used in conjunction with the .50 Cal. MG, this was installed in Martin upper gun turrets on the Marting B-26 Marauder and Boeing B-24 Liberator bombers!
Made by Sperry, the K-9 is a computing gunsight used in Marin upper gun turrets on the B-26 and B-24 bombers. It operates similarly to the Sperry K-3 except that the computer is fixed and gets information from a separate movable sighting head.
The Follow-Up Computing Mechanism is the main controller for the sight itself. The Sighting Head attached directly to this unit, and stabilized by a gyroscope, helps the gun operator to keep the target centered, and predict the deflection required.
Made of aluminum, steel, and glass, and dating around 1944, this is an EXCELLENT used example. Though there are some light scratches and wear from storage, it retains 95% of its original finish! All parts are original to this sight computer, and the data plate is 100% intact, clearly indicating the model and type. One small cover plate is missing (see photos), but that can easily be replaced. Though I could not find any images of this installed in a Martin turret, I have shown some images from the manual. Unlike the K-3 Gunsight, there is no attached sighting head, as it was utilized as a separate unit. A few months ago, an exact one of these sold for $1500 here on eBay, so I am asking the same. A VERY RARE item, it would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection, display, or simply as a conversation piece!
