Description
The retiflector gun sight was installed at the station of the Central Fire Director located at the top of the aircraft. It was the same operationally as the sights used in the pedestal sighting stations located at the port and starboard sides of the aircraft, in that it communicated directly with the central fire control system to aim the guns of the aircraft at the enemy aircraft. It is different in its physical configuration as needed for installation in the sighting ring rimming the blister of the central fire director. As such, the reticle projection mechanism is offset 90 degree to the right of the sighting lens.
Made of aluminum, steel, and glass, and dating around 1944/45, this is an EXCELLENT used example. Though there are some scratches, wear, and slight corrosion from storage, it still retains 98% of its original finish! No bulbs internally, but those could easily be sourced. All the glass is original to this sight, and the data plate is 100% intact, clearly indicating the model and type. Adjustment knobs also functions correctly. I have shown its location in the last images. Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection, display, or simply as a conversation piece!
