Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a WW2 US Army Air Force Pilot’s Side Windscreen Auxiliary Window (sometimes referred to as a “knockout window”)! This was SPECIFIC to the Boeing B-17 G “Flying Fortress” Bomber, used throughout the war (also in use with the Royal Air Force).
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is an American four-engined heavy bomber aircraft developed in the 1930s for the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC). A fast and high-flying bomber, the B-17 dropped more bombs than any other aircraft during World War II, used primarily in the European Theater of Operations. It is the third-most produced bomber in history, behind the American four-engined Consolidated B-24 Liberator and the German multirole, twin-engined Junkers Ju 8. The B-17 was also employed in transport, anti-submarine warfare, and search and rescue roles.
Made of Aluminum, Steel, and Plexiglass, this is an EXCELLENT example. Specific to the Douglas-built B-17 G models, it was originally located just front of the pilots main window. There are some scratches, wear, marks, and paint loss…however it features NO major damage or corrosion! Retains most of the original interior and exterior paint! Could use a bit of a clean-up or left as-is. EASILY identifiable, I have shown its location in the last photos. Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection, display, or simply as a conversation piece!
