Description
Based on the British RAF Mk. II Gunsight, the K-14 (USAAF) and Mk18 (Navy) sights were a direct copy. The K-14 included two projector systems for the reflector sight, one with gyro correction for attacking aircraft, and a second for attacking ground targets. It was otherwise similar to the British models, although the dial for adjusting the target size was moved to the left side of the sight instead of the front. The area where the Mark II had the dial was replaced by a moving scale that indicated the current range to the target, along with a large pad that prevented pilot head injuries in the case of rapid deceleration.
Made of aluminum, steel, and glass, and dating around 1944, this is a VERY NICE example. Though there are some light scratches and wear from storage, it retains 95% of its original finish! All the glass is original to this sight, however the main reflector glass is missing (these come up by themselves). The data plate is 100% intact, and clearly indicates the model and type. Comes complete with the original gyro unit! The original connection line and bulbs are also present. A bit of dust and dirt from storage, but that can easily be rectified by the winning bidder. I have shown its location in the last image. Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection, display, or simply as a conversation piece!
