Description
Based on the British RAF Mk. II Gunsight, the K-14 (USAAF) and Mk.8 / Mk.18 (Navy) sights were a direct copy. The K-14 included two projector systems for the reflector sight, one with gyro correction for attacking aircraft, and a second for attacking ground targets. It was otherwise similar to the British models, although the dial for adjusting the target size was moved to the left side of the sight instead of the front. The area where the Mark II had the dial was replaced by a moving scale that indicated the current range to the target, along with a large pad that prevented pilot head injuries in the case of rapid deceleration.
Made of aluminum, steel, and glass, and dating around 1944, this is a SUPERB example! Though there are some light scratches and wear from storage, it retains 98% of its original finish! It is 100% COMPLETE, with all the glass original to this sight. The data plate is 100% intact, and clearly indicates:
SIGHT UNIT
MK. 8 MOD. 2
Comes complete with a MK. 22, MOD. Radio SUppressed Gyro Unit; the original connection line; and both bulbs! The VERY INTERESTING detail is the crosshair, which is quite different from the standard K-14 and Mk. 18 Gunsights (see photos). A bit of dust and dirt from storage, but that can easily be rectified by the winning bidder. IDENTICAL to the K-4, but different from the standard Mk.18, so appears to be quiet unique, as I have not been able to find any further info on this variant. Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection, display, or simply as a conversation piece!
