You are bidding on an EXTREMELY RARE and 100% original Main Data Plate for the SOLENOID of a 3″/50 Gun, as used on various WW2 Navy Warships and Submarines! This came from an estate in Germany, so most likely from a captured or scuttled vessel.
The WW2 US Navy 3″/50 caliber gun fired a projectile 3 inches (76 mm) in diameter, with a barrel that was 50 calibers long (barrel length is 3 in × 50 = 150 in or 3.8 m). Different guns (identified by Mark numbers) of this caliber were used by the U.S. Navy throughout WW2. Used throughout WW1, they were upgraded for use on WW2 ships.
Made of brass, this is a SUPERB item, as removed from the Solenoid! All information is clearly legible, and indicates:
US NAVY BU OF ORD
MK. 32 MOD 0
It mounted directly to the Solenoid, and due to the age, very few remain in existence. There is some obvious wear and scratches due to the age, but otherwise FANTASTIC in condition! Measuring approx. 1.5″ x 2.5″, it would make a SUPERB addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
