WW2 US Army Navy – BOEING PT-17 / N2S STEARMAN KAYDET RUDDER FABRIC – RARE!

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a WW2 US Army / Navy Aircraft Fabric Skin, as removed from the Starboard Side Rudder of a Boeing PT-17 (N2S) Stearman “Kaydet” primary trainer! This piece was cut from the aircraft by a US Serviceman during the war.

This type of fabric covered the aluminum aircraft skin on the flaps, ailerons, and rudder of the aircraft!  This was fairly universal on most aircraft control surfaces during WW2, however some planes were entirely covered with fabric.

The Stearman (Boeing) Model 75 is an American biplane formerly used as a military trainer aircraft, of which at least 10,626 were built in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. Stearman Aircraft became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934. Widely known as the Stearman, Boeing Stearman, or Kaydet, it served as a primary trainer for the United States Army Air Forces, the United States Navy (as the NS and N2S), and with the Royal Canadian Air Force as the Kaydet throughout World War II.

Made of lightweight fabric, this section is a SUPERB piece of aviation history! Though it does feature some cracks, it is still in AMAZING condition, and retains 95% of it’s original paint!  All colors are VERY BRIGHT, featuring the early American, “red white and blue”. It is currently mounted onto a black piece of fabric, so it is suitable for framing! I have had the Fuselage Stars listed previously (those come up quite a bit), however, this is the ONLY rudder fabric section I have seen! Original fabric of this size is EXTREMELY rare as it usually burned up or rotted away over time. I have shown its location in the last photos.  A one-of-a-kind item which would make an FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
