Description
The M1916 holster was the standard leather holster used with the Colt M1911 and M1911A1 throughout WW2. Designed for wear on the pistol belt, it protected the pistol while keeping it immediately accessible to the soldier. Numerous contractors produced M1916 holsters during wartime production, including Sears Saddlery, whose examples are known both with and without stamped production dates. Undated Sears-marked holsters are therefore a recognized wartime variation and should not automatically be considered postwar.
Made of heavy brown leather with brass hardware, this original Sears M1916 holster is in EXCEPTIONAL near NEW OLD STOCK condition! The leather retains virtually all of its original rich wartime color and finish, with extremely little evidence of actual field use. The flap, stitching, belt attachment, and closure remain intact, and the main fastening opening shows virtually no wear, strongly indicating that the holster saw little if any actual service. The reverse is clearly stamped “SEARS,” while no production date is visible, consistent with known undated wartime Sears examples. The brass studs and fittings exhibit noticeable green verdigris and oxidation from long-term storage, particularly where the hardware contacts the leather, but this is superficial age-related storage corrosion and does not detract from the exceptional preservation of the holster itself. There are NO tears, cracks, repairs, broken stitching, or serious leather deterioration. Everything present is 100% ORIGINAL wartime manufacture. An EXCEPTIONAL surviving example that would be extremely difficult to upgrade!
