WW2 Italian Royal Air Force Data Plate – Z2 Remote Turret – Piaggio P.108 – RARE

1 in stock

You are bidding on a SUPERB and EXTREMELY RARE example of a Royal Italian Air Force Data Tag, originating from the remote controlled wing turret of a Piaggio P.108 Bomber Aircraft!  This SPECIFIC item was recovered from downed P.108 that crashed in the later stages of the war.  Sadly, I do not have any further history.

The Piaggio P.108 Bombardiere was an Italian four-engine heavy bomber that saw service with Italy during World War II.  The prototype first flew in 1939 and it entered service in 1941.  Four versions of the P.108 were designed, but only one, the P.108B bomber, was produced in any quantity before the armistice. The combined total number of all versions (and prototypes) was 35.

This data tag was located directly on the the remote-controlled Breda Z2 Wing Turret of the P.108, and indicated the type, serial number, and manufacturer.

Made of brass, this data tag is in SUPERB condition for it’s age. There are some obvious dents and wear, but everything is legible.  Recovered from a wreck in Italy of Africa, it clearly indicates:

Societa Italiana Ernesto Breda – Milano

Torretta No. 9633   Z2

Con Comandi Idrodinamici Calzoni

Measuring approx. 1″ x 4″ in size, there is no corrosion and still retains much of it’s original paint and finish!  Would make an EXCELLENT item for any collection or display!

——————- ABOUT ME —————–

Although my passion is the Me109, I do offer many other German Aircraft (Fw190, Me262, etc.), as well as USAF and Japanese items. Occasionally I do offer many non-vintage items such as prints and art relating to the time period. As a private collector myself, I am constantly on the lookout for historical memorabilia, authentic photographs, artwork or anything unique relating to military aircraft.
