WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Fighter Fuel Gauge – J1N1 Gekko "Irving" – RARE!

Out of stock

You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy 0-10.9 Main Fuel Gauge, as ONLY used in the J1N1 Gekko “Irving” Fighter Aicraft!

Nakajima J1N1 Gekko (月光 “Moonlight”) was a twin-engine aircraft used by the Japanese Imperial Navy during World War II and was used for reconnaissance, night fighter, and kamikaze missions. The first flight took place in May 1941. It was given the Allied reporting name “Irving”, since the earlier reconnaissance version the J1N1-C, was mistaken for a fighter.

This instrument measured the Fuel Quantity, and was located on the main instrument panel.

Made of  brass and aluminum, this piece is of mid war manufacture, and was removed from a downed Japanese aircraft by a US Serviceman during the war (I will provide further details to the winning bidder).  It still retains 95% of it’s original finish and appears to be 100% functional!  All dials and knobs move correctly.  The original data plate is still attached and appears to be a mid-war Type 4.  The dial still glows when UV light is applied!  The I have indicated it’s location in the last photos.

Like most Japanese instruments, this gauge is VERY RARE and would be a FANTASTIC addition to any Japanese Instrument Collection.

Please email me if you need additional photos or information.

——————- ABOUT ME —————–

Although my passion is the Me109, I do offer many other German Aircraft (Fw190, Me262, etc.), as well as USAF and Japanese items. Occasionally I do offer many non-vintage items such as prints and art relating to the time period. As a private collector myself, I am constantly on the lookout for historical memorabilia, authentic photographs, artwork or anything unique relating to military aircraft.
