Description
You are bidding on a STUNNING and 100% ORIGINAL pre-1945 WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Electrically Heated Flight Suit, as used by various fighter pilots and bomber crews!
This heated overall was worn UNDER the standard 1-piece Flight suit 2-piece Jacket and Pants. By plugging into the aircraft electrics, it heated the chest and the lungs, the back up to the kidneys, the upper arms, and finally, the upper legs. It attached to the electrics via a cable in the middle of the back. Due to the lightweight design, it could be worn in conjunction with both summer and winter suits. Connections are also present for heated gloves, shoulders, and even a heated goggle (which is VERY are in itself)! Copied from the original German design of the time period (see my other listing for reference). Connections were also present for the heated flight helmet, goggles, and socks.
Manufactured in lightweight brown/tan cotton, this heated flight suit liner is in SUPERB unused condition! It features wood buttons down the front, as well as adjustable buttons at the sleeves, and drawstrings at the ankles. There is some slight wear and marks due to the age, but NO major holes or damage (one very tine hole at the back, see photos). Both the manufacture label and ink stamps are still present, as well as the original inspection tag! Inspection tag is dated February 1944! Overall it is a BEAUTIFUL example, and still retains the main electrical connector at the rear. Though designed to be worn UNDER the standard flight suit, many pilots used them as a standard outer (see last photo for reference, where I show the German variant). Nick Komiya wrote a FANTASTIC article in regards to these suits on the “War Relics Forum”, so I would suggest anyone interested to check it out. Only a HANDFUL of these are known to exist, making this example EXTREMELY RARE! An EXCELLENT addition to any collection or display!
