Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Kogun Imon Comfort Medallion! This type of medallion was produced as a patriotic or commemorative item connected with the Japanese wartime Imon system, through which soldiers were honored, encouraged, and supported by civilian organizations, patriotic groups, and military-associated institutions.
During the Second World War, imon referred broadly to encouragement-type support, gifts, visits, and comforts provided to servicemen both at home and overseas. Medallions and similar patriotic pieces were often associated with military service, regimental pride, troop morale, and public support of the armed forces. The regimental standard, or rentai-ki, held enormous symbolic importance within the Imperial Japanese Army and was regarded as one of the most sacred emblems of a regiment, formally bestowed in the Emperor’s name and treated with great ceremony and reverence.
Made of brass, this medallion is in EXCELLENT used condition! There are some normal age-related surface marks and wear, however there are NO bends, cracks, breaks, or structural damage! The face features Japanese soldiers advancing through a tropical landscape carrying a regimental standard, with aircraft overhead and a decorative border of stars. The reverse bears the wording Kogun Imon, meaning “Imperial Army Comfort,” together with Rippa no Rentai-ki, meaning “Splendid Regimental Standard.” The original relief detail remains extremely well defined throughout, including the soldiers, flag, vegetation, aircraft, border decoration, and lettering. The suspension loop remains completely intact, and the piece is accompanied by the metal ball chain with which it was found. The chain appears period appropriate, though its originality to the medallion cannot be positively confirmed. Everything presents extremely well, making this a SUPERB piece of Imperial Japanese Army patriotic memorabilia for any advanced WW2 Japanese militaria collection or display!
