Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of an Imperial Japanese Army Directional Gyroscope, as used in the Ki-48 “Lily”, Ki-67 “Peggy”, and other front medium and heavy bombers!
Made of aluminum, brass, and steel this instrument is in SUPERB used condition!!! Removed from a downed Japanese aircraft by a US serviceman during the war, it still retains 95% of it’s original finish! Features an early Type 2 aluminum data plate, clearly stating the model, manufacture, production number. Dial still glows when UV light is applied, and still appears to be functional! The AMAZING feature is that is retains the original serial number of the aircraft it was fitted to! In this case, “338”. Also retains the original connection lines. The only downfall is that the adjsutment knob is stuck, and needs to be lubricated in order to function correctly (easy fix). The Airspeed Indicator I have in another auction features the same number, so both originated from the same aircraft. Most likely both instruments originated from a Ki-67, as that was the only aircraft that featured this combination. I have indicated it’s location in the last photos. Like most Japanese instruments, this gauge is VERY RARE and would be a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
