You are bidding on a VERY RARE example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Zittwerke Werksmarke (Factory Workers Badge) as used for identification purposes while constructing underground jet factories!
Many civilians were employed in various positions while constructing factories and assembly centers. Each worker would have been issued with a specific factory ID/Access tag that permitted them to enter the particular facility. The ZITTWERK was a group of factories owned by Junkers Jumo, which was a subcamp of Gross-Rosen. In the beginning only standard Luftwaffe members acted as guards, however towards the end, the 17th Elite Totenkopf battalion was used.
Made of Zinc, this Factory Worker Badge is in SUPERB condition. All markings are clear to read, however there is some slight corrosion. “ZW” (Zittwerke) is featured prominently at the top, which was a code for the Jumo engine factory. There is some slight dirt and staining, however it retains most of it’s original finish! Still also retains the original button holder/clip at the reverse (usually these are broken off). Could be easily cleaned up. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
