Description
Military belts and buckles date back hundreds of years, and were originally designed for attaching swords and daggers. The open claw belt buckle was designed with a buckle color to match the button color of the wearer’s uniform – Silver for Company and Field Grade ranks; gold for General Grade Officer ranks. During the war leather shortages resulted in the original larger size of 60mm, to be reduced to 45mm. They were intended to be worn with a cross strap and a “D” ring strap to the reverse to secure the cross strap to the belt. This was discontinued around 1940.
Made of brown leather, aluminum, and steel this item is in EXCELLENT used condition! Retaining much of its original finish, there is some slight dirt and wear, but it does not detract. No markings that I can see. SMALL in size, this measures approx. 64cm in length (regular adult straps are around 90cm in length). 100% complete, it would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
