Description
You are bidding on a VERY RARE used example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht WIF Field Flashlight (Feld Taschenlampe)! This was a standard issue item, used by all branches, including the Heer, Luftwaffe, and Kriegsmarine! WIF was the ONLY company that supplied the lamps to the Wehrmacht for official issue (while all others were private purchase).
The field flashlight was a standard issue item for all ranks and featured various colored lenses for signaling or darker lenses for camouflage purposes. Flashlights where a vital tool for night time map reading, signaling with coloured lenses and many other uses. The blackout during the war also meant for a extended popularity of flashlights. Many carried them onto the streets to see as the streetlights where very rare and to top that of mostly blacked out. Most flashlights where fitted with blinds or coloured lenses to hide the bright light they produced. These coloured lenses where also used to signal between individual soldiers. These flashlights or Taschenlampen where mostly private purchase but in some cases where issued as well. Brands as Daimon, Petrix, Hassia and Zeiler where a few of many popular brands in the time.
Made of lightweight steel, this flashlight is in EXCELLENT used condition, and retains 70% of its original grey paint! Some slight marks, wear, dents, and scratches due to the age, but VERY solid otherwise! The company name “WIF” is clearly stamped into the front, as well as the VERY RARE, “HEERESEIGUNTUM” marking. This denotes that it is a rare OFFICIAL ISSUED item, as opposed to private purchase. A MUCH rarer variant than standard, it features a green and red lens filters. On/Off switch is featured at the side. The leather straps at the back are complete, and the interior still retains all of is component parts including the light bulb! 100% mechanically functional, but I have not tested it electrically. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!Powered by SixBit’s eCommerce Solution
