WW2 German Wehrmacht – MOUNTAIN TROOP / MEDICAL CANTEEN COVER – NICE!

The M31 canteen was based on the M1893 and M1907 canteen which were used throughout WW1. These were originally manufactured in aluminum, but as aluminum was required for use in other equipment (aircraft, for example), they were then re-designed to be manufactured in steel. For tropical climates, the canteen was made of pressed wood with canvas straps. Although 0.8 litre in capacity, Mountain Troops and Medical Personnel were issued a larger, 1 or 2 litre capacity canteen that was based on the larger canteens used by their WWI counterparts.

Made of wool felt, this canteen cover is in GOOD used condition! Some marks and wear, but nothing that detracts. Though there are two small gashes/cuts in the front, it is still VERY solid, and features a maker code and production date of 1940. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
