Description
The M31 canteen was based on the M1893 and M1907 canteen which were used throughout WW1. These were originally manufactured in aluminum, but as aluminum was required for use in other equipment (aircraft, for example), they were then re-designed to be manufactured in steel. For tropical climates, the canteen was made of pressed wood with canvas straps.
Made of canvas and steel, this canteen strap is in EXCELLENT condition for its age. Some marks and wear throughout, due to the age, as well as some slight corrosion to the steel fittings, but nothing that detracts. No markings that I can see. Missing the cap and steel clip, so good for repair or restoration. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
