Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE and 100% ORIGINAL example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht / Luftwaffe / Kriegsmarine 2nd Class War Merit Cross with Swords!
Introduced on October 18, 1939, in two distinct classes, both with and without swords, this medal was awarded to both military and civilian personnel for exceptional service or bravery, in a non-combatant role. The addition of swords to the award signified bravery, while awards without swords were for service.
Made of a die struck alloy with silver finish, this award is in VERY nice condition! It features a Maltese cross, with a central swastika encircled by an oak leaf wreath. Reverse indicates the original instituted date of 1939. This variant features the swords, which cross through the center. Some slight mark, stains, and wear throughout. Features the maker mark “4” on the pin, indicating it is of Steinhauer and Luck manufacture. Comes complete with the original case, that features similar wear, marks, and stains. A VERY NICE addition to any collection or display!
