Description
You are bidding on an VERY NICE used example of a WW2 German BLACK Wound Badge, as used to various personnel throughout the war!
Wound Badges were originally established on March 3,1918 to recognize the sacrifice of those wounded during WW1. They were re-designed in WW2, with an image of the M35 Helmet replacing the earlier pattern. Various classes of badges were issued, depending on the severity of the wounds inflicted (black badge for one or two wounds; silver badge for three or four wounds; and a gold badge for five or more wounds).
Made of stamped steel/metal, this Black Wound Badge is in GOOD used condition! Oval in shape, it features a high relief profile of an M35 pattern helmet over top of two crossed swords. As it is stamped in construction, the reverse is mirror image of the front. Pin and catch are both original. Some marks, wear and scratches due to the age, and much of the original finish has worn away over time…but otherwise. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!!
