Description

You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of a PRE-PRODUCTION PROTOTYPE WW2 German K43 / G43 Rifle Sniper Scope Mount!  This was one fo the first designed developed before production went into effect, and the only one known to exist.

The Gewehr 43 or Karabiner 43 (abbreviated G43, K43, Gew 43, Kar 43) is a 7.92×57mm Mauser caliber semi-automatic rifle developed by Nazi Germany during World War II. The design was based on that of the earlier G41(W), but incorporating an improved short-stroke piston gas system similar to that of the Soviet Tokarev SVT-40, and it incorporated innovative mass-production techniques.

Made of cast steel, this ZF4/K43 sniper scope mount is a VERY RARE example!  There are some slight marks, wear, and scratches due to the age, but features no corrosion or damage!  As this is a pre-production prototype, it was never issued to the Wehrmacht, and as such, does not feature and inspection stamp or serial number.  The German “Los” and “Fest” are clearly stamped on the locking lever (lever is a bit loose).

Though it seems complex, this design actually let the sniper to permanently zero out the scope when mounted, by adjusting the square posts on the mount up/down; and left/right.  This would in effect, allow the ZF4 scope to remain at “0” in both windage and elevation when mounted.  The sniper could then adjust the scope directly, depending on the current situation.

Many of the pre-production ZF4 scopes did not have the adjusting knobs, so this was most likely made in conjunction with them at that time, before the final design was agreed upon.  As this pre-production prototype is the only one known to exist, it would make an SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
