Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Leder-Okularschutz (Leather Binocular Rain Shield)! This original protective cover was fitted over the ocular lenses of German military Dienstglas binoculars to help protect the eyepieces from rain, dust, dirt, and other field debris.
German military binoculars were issued with protective ocular covers in several forms, including leather and later molded synthetic or Bakelite types. The Okularschutz was designed to remain attached to the binocular carrying arrangement so that it could be quickly moved into place over the eyepieces when the binoculars were not being used. Original leather examples are particularly desirable today, as they were heavily used in the field and are frequently found dried, torn, incomplete, or missing altogether.
Made of a dark brown leather, this original Leder-Okularschutz is in VERY GOOD used condition! The leather rain shield itself remains complete, strong, and displayable, with normal age-related wear and surface marks from service and storage. The original leather neck strap remains attached, however the strap is broken and should therefore be considered incomplete and primarily included as an original accompanying component rather than as a functional carrying strap. The Okularschutz itself remains the primary feature of the set and retains its original form with NO major tears, missing sections, or serious damage. Everything present is 100% ORIGINAL wartime German manufacture. A VERY NICE original Dienstglas accessory and an EXCELLENT piece for completing or displaying with a period Wehrmacht binocular set!
