Description
You are bidding on a FANTASTIC and 100% ORIGINAL example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Field Grey Reversible Winter Hood!
After the first devastating winter of 1941-1942 on the Russian front, the German army found that it was drastically under equipped with cold weather garments. As such, a wide variety of improvised garments including a broad assortment of donated civilian garments were utilized as a temporary solution. In the spring of 1942, the Wehrmacht, began testing heavier winter clothing to develop suitable garments for the Russian front. In April 1942, the first models were issued in the autumn of that year, in the reversible blue/mouse grey/white colorations, which was modified to camouflage pattern/white combinations in 1943. Included with these new garments were heavy, padded, reversible winter suits which consisted of a parka, pants, mittens and hoods.
Made of water-resistant wool/rayon, this reversible hood is in SUPERB used condition! It features the standard Field Grey coloring on one side, which is reversible to white on the other. It features the original tie string, which was designed to tie around the wearers neck. The bottom features four large panels that were designed to tuck under the jacket in order to retain the most warmth possible. Dating around 1942, it features a clear manufacture stamp, with a “59” size marking. As it was used in combat, there are some slight marks and stains. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
