Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a 100% ORIGINAL German Heer (Army) Infantry EM/NCO Visor Cap (Schirmmütze)! This was brought back by a US Veteran, however I do not have any further history.
Visor caps were a standard issue for all personnel. The different branches of service within the army were allocated a specific, identifying, waffenfarbe, (Branch of Service Color). With white being chosen for Infantry personnel, this was displayed as piping for EM/NCO’s and Company and Field grade officers. Officers and certain senior NCO ranks were responsible for purchasing their own caps and as a result were allotted a clothing allowance. They could choose to purchase their caps from the armed forces clothing depots or privately purchase caps of higher quality.
Made of Field Grey wool, this EM/NCO Visor Cap is in EXCELLENT condition considering it’s age! As it is in used/combat worn condition, there are various marks and mothing…and some of the stitching has come loose on the sweatband. Features a dark cloth centerband and white piping (indicating “Infantry”) to the crown, as well as on the top and bottom edges of the centerband. The center has a second pattern Army Eagle, as well as a second pattern wreath and cockade. It has a leather chinstrap (indicating an NCO rank), which is secured by two black metal buttons, as well as a black visor. The leather chin strap features some wear and slight cracking. The interior of the cap is fully lined in a brushed tan rayon, however the manufacture label has worn away. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
