Description
Maximilian Freiherr von Weichs was one of the senior German Army commanders of WW2. A career cavalry officer, he commanded XIII Army Corps during the early campaigns before assuming command of the 2nd Army, which he led in France, the Balkans, and during Operation Barbarossa. In 1942 he became commander of Army Group B and was responsible for major German formations operating during the Stalingrad campaign. He was promoted to Generalfeldmarschall in 1943 and later commanded Army Group F and served as Commander-in-Chief Southeast in the Balkans. Von Weichs was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross and later received the Oak Leaves.
Made of period printed cardstock, this postcard is in EXCELLENT used condition! There is some very slight age-related yellowing, however there are NO tears, bends, creases, or other notable damage! The front features a formal portrait of Generalfeldmarschall Maximilian Freiherr von Weichs in uniform, with the printed caption “Generalfeldmarschall Frhr. von WEICHS” along the lower edge. His original wartime handwritten autograph is boldly signed across the lower portion of the photograph. The reverse retains the original printed postcard and publisher information and remains unused. The portrait, printed caption, reverse markings, and autograph remain clear and fully legible. Everything is 100% ORIGINAL, wartime manufacture and wartime signed, making this a VERY NICE autographed portrait of one of Germany’s senior Field Marshals of WW2!
