You are bidding on a VERY NICE set of WW2 German Wehrmacht 10×50 “Panzer” Binoculars! These were brought back by US veteran at the end of the war.
The German Army used a wide variety of optical equipment, including a 6×30 (6 power magnification with 30mm objective lens, being the standard issued optics used by all branches of service). Though this type was the standard, specialized personnel required stronger optics (such as this 10×50), and were issues to personnel on a limited basis.
Due to their compact and lightweight design, the Roof Prism style was favoured by most Panzer Tank Crews.
Made by bmj (Hendsolt Wezlar) of a large tooled alloy and aluminum construction, these 10 x 50 power binoculars are in EXCELLENT used condition! The lens bodies retain about 90% of their original, rough textured, Black finish. The aluminum end piece fittings retain about 98% of their original finish, and the eye sockets are intact. Some slight chips and wear, but nothing that takes away from the overall appearance. The focus adjustments still function perfectly on both eye pieces, and the optics are still very clear with almost NO spotting (though a bit hazy along the edges). Sadly, the image is a bit out of alignment. Reticle features a 0-30 gradient scale, and the body is well marked with the impressed designation, “Dienstglas 10 x 50“, (Service Glasses), the manufacturer’s code bmj for “Hendsolt Wetzlar”, and a “+” lubricant code, (indicating lubricant type 1442), which meant the optics were still effective in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees Celsius.
The leather case also remains in EXCELLENT condition, along with the original strap. Dated 1943, the veteran who sent it home wrote his name on the inside of the flap. The button closure is MISSING on this one…so the spring clasp will not close. Nonetheless, one of the NICER I have seen in a while, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!!!
