WW2 German Variometer – VERTICAL SPEED INDICATOR – Grunau DFS Horten – NICE!

Out of stock

You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe +5/-5 m/s Variometer (Climb/Decent Gauge), Fl. 22379, as used in various German gliders such as the Grunau Baby, DFS Meise, NSK, Horten, and others!

This instrument measured the vertical speed climb/decent using the surrounding air pressure.  It was located on the main instrument panel of many German gliders.

Made of dark black bakelite, this is instrument is in EXCELLENT used condition!  It was manufactured between 1942 and 1945, and does have some marks/scratches.  Some slight corrosion from storage on the rear steel fittings, but this can easily be cleaned-up.  The data label is missing, but there is anhand-applied ink stamp clearly indicating Fl. 22379.  Sadly, the needle is broken, so only good for parts/repair.  I have indicated it’s location in the last photos.  Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
