You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a round Wartungklappe (Service Hatch), as used on various WW2 German fighter and bomber aircraft! This specific hatch was recovered from the wreck in Europe, however I am not sure of the exact model type.
Made of aluminum and steel, this is in EXCELLENT relic condition. There is some slight corrosion, however it retains 95% of it’s original camouflage paint! The upper surface features an interesting blue camouflage; and the reverse features a decal that clearly indicates, “Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau AG Bremen”. It also has traces of wood, indicating the aircraft had some wood structure. Sadly, the aircraft type (normally written in ink), has faded…but what I “can” read appears to be an “87”. The only Fw aircraft with that suffix was a Fw187, which saw VERY limited service, as only 9 were built. I do not think it is from one of those, so for now, it will have to remain a mystery as to it’s true identification. Measuring approx. 6″ in diameter, this is an AMAZING example. Would make a VERY NICE addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
