Used only in the 3.7cm PaK Anti-Tank Gun, the P.Z.F. 2 telescoping gunsight has a 2.5 power magnification with a 28 degree field of view. The gun was developed in 1935 at the German Rheinmetall-Borsig AG plant in Düsseldorf. After the outbreak of the war, further work on dedicated artillery weapons for the fortifications was suspended, making this a VERY RARE item, as few survived!
Made of aluminum and steel, this aiming scope was manufactured between 1935 and 1940. Recovered after the war, it retains 95% of its original paint and finish with NO corrosion or damage! VERY large and heavy, it has a total length of approx. 71cm (28″). The manufacture code and data information is stamped into the side, indicating:
P.Z.F. 2 2,5×28°
It comes complete in the original transport box, as well as most accessories, including:
1 Headpad, with changeable cover for eye relief
2 Optical Lights w/ battery Cables for night vision
1 Orange lens Filter.
It appears to be only missing the replacement bulbs for the lights, and one filter, and the cleaning cloth but is otherwise complete. Also features the Carl Zeiss logo and a CLEAR early Waffenamt inspetion stamp. The optics themselves are EXTREMELY clear, with almost NO spotting or haze (marks shown in the auction photo, is just the result from glare while the photo was being taken). The silver knob on the side of the optics allows the user the adjust the range/distance to target. While turning the knob, the gradient scale shown right, adjusts up/down, and the aiming triangle moves along with it. I have shown the exact type of gun & mount it was used on in the last photo. Sadly, I was unable to come up with any original photos of it in use, due to it’s scarcity. A VERY NICE scope that would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
