Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe BLACK Wound Badge Certificate, as used to various personnel throughout the war! This specific item came from the estate of Oberfeldwebel Josef Klein, who served on the Easter Front!
Wound Badges were originally established on March 3,1918 to recognize the sacrifice of those wounded during WW1. They were re-designed in WW2, with an image of the M35 Helmet replacing the earlier pattern. Various classes of badges were issued, depending on the severity of the wounds inflicted (black badge for one or two wounds; silver badge for three or four wounds; and a gold badge for five or more wounds).
Oberfeldwebel Josef Klein was a bomber pilot with 1.(F)/100 (1. Fernaufklarungsgruppe 100), and few the Ju88 (amongst other aircraft). Though I know he served on the Eastern Front (Smolensk), sadly, I do not have any further information.
Made of paper, this Black Wound Badge certificate is in EXCELLENT used condition! Some marks and wear, due to the age, but nothing that detracts. Comes with a photo of Klein who served on the Eastern Front. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!!
