Description
Otto Stams (5 April 1903 – 16 May 1976) was a German pilot who stated out as a member of II/KG1, and eventually took command in 1940. He was severely wounded in the lower left leg when his Ju 88 A-5 (V4+AC) was hit by ground fire 3 km West of Ligatne. He was then transferred, and became head of the Peenemünde West experimental aircraft test center. He was awarded the Knight’s Cross, with his total of 50 missions flown, as well as the impressive achievements of his Gruppe in the first days of Barbarossa. They included the following: Destroying 200+ enemy aircraft on the ground.
Made of heavy card and paper, this is a FANTASTIC set! Dated November 27, 1942, this grouping includes a letter to an Erdmann Ehrenreich, with Stams responding to an autograph request and photo. Letter is typed on an official “Peenemunde” letterhead. He has hand-signed both the letter and the photo. Some marks, wear, and stains due to the age, but otherwise SUPERB! A VERY RARE item to locate, this is a FANTASTIC set!
